You can destroy your product by piercing holes inside the hull or cutting it in half.

For your kayak serial number

Look at the right (starboard) side on the back (stern) of the boat on the outside of the hull. Most, but not all boats have a recessed area here. Your serial number will always be in this area. Additionally, the serial number may be on the side of the left (port) thigh brace, either on the side facing into the centre of the cockpit or occasionally on the side facing away towards the hull. For the pelican brand, the serial number starts with CA-ZEP followed by 5 numbers, 1 letter and 3 numbers (EX. CA-ZEP12345A678)

For FISHING BOATS, CANOES and PEDAL BOATS

The serial number will be located right below the rubber moulding

On Wilderness Systems, Dagger, and Perception Kayaks

The serial number consists of 12 alphanumeric digits and will be found on the right (starboard) side on the back (stern) of the boat on the outside of the hull. Ex: WEMELA29A909

The serial number of each product is required as per Coast Guard regulations as a company identification code, which means you have bought a quality product.
The next five digits are generated in sequence by our system to give each boat its own unique serial number.
The next digit is a letter that represents the month of the year your boat was moulded.
The letter A represents January, the letter B would represent February, and so on.
The next digit is the year the kayak was built, and the last two numbers will be the model year of the kayak. The example above would be for a 2009 model boat, moulded in January 2009.

If your boat came with damaged or absent decals, it is important that you follow the following procedures:

The claim will be analyzed by our warranty team, and they will get back to you with a resolution in no time.

However, if your decals need a little refresh, we invite you to visit our website, www.confluenceoutdoor.com where many are available for purchase.

You can get the PDF version of an owner’s manual by using theHin finder. You can also request a manual through our contact-us form, choosing owner's manual as your subject and we will send a PDF version.

The law in your state may require you to get a manufacturer's statement of origin to register your kayak or boat. Please fill out the manufacturer's contact-us form, and Pelican International will gladly issue one for you.

  • Make sure you select the brand of your product and MSO as a subject
  • Ensure to provide the serial number of your Pelican product ZEP12345A123 or for the other brands, WEMELA29A909

Note that every state has different requirements; you might want to contact your local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to verify what is needed for registration.

Prelaunch Checklist

  • Never remove the Styrofoam in sit-in kayaks, as they provide additional flotation and are installed in production;
  • Always wear a proper personal flotation device (PFD);
  • Always have an emergency safety kit on hand as required by applicable laws (whistle, etc.);
  • Remove the hardware used to attach the kayak during transport;
  • Ensure the drain plug is firmly in place;
  • Ensure the length of your paddle is properly adjusted for your height;

To board your kayak, put your foot in the centre of the kayak to ensure it remains stable.

Important Information: DO NOT USE CHEMICAL PRODUCTS OR ABRASIVES.

  • The best way to clean your product is by using fresh water or a combination of mild soap and warm water. This is very important after paddling in salt water, especially if your boat is outfitted with a rudder system. Be sure to thoroughly rinse the rudder, rudder cables, and footbraces with fresh water to remove salt residue;
  • If superficial scratches occur, they can be removed or reduced by using a marine boat polish designed for polyethylene hulls. Sanding or the use of an abrasive rubbing compound is not recommended. To keep your kayak shining and minimize the long-term degradation caused by UV exposure, use an ultraviolet protectant such as 303 Aerospace Protectant We also recommend rinsing it with fresh water after each use to remove sand and saltwater deposits. Clean your watercraft regularly to keep it looking like new. Some chemical substances contained in cleaning products and sunscreen lotions are likely to damage the finish of your kayak;
  • Caution must be used if you decide to use a pressure washer to clean your product;
  • Never use the pressure washer on the deck of your watercraft, as it could damage accessories and stickers;
  • Only use a pressure washer on the hull below the water line;
  • Always use widest setting on the jet spray

It will not damage your product if you follow these steps: We recommend rinsing it with fresh water after each use to remove sand and saltwater deposits. Clean your kayak regularly to keep it looking like new.

  • Never try to paint your kayak. Paint will not adhere to the hull;
  • Caution must be used if you decide to use a pressure washer to clean your kayak;
  • Never use the pressure washer on the deck of your kayak, as it could damage accessories and stickers;
  • Only use a pressure washer on the hull below the water line;
  • Always use widest setting on the jet spray.

About Your Kayak

Our Pelican kayaks and boats are designed for recreational use and shouldn’t be used in the ocean. You should always see the shore and stay at a safe distance for you to be able to swim back in case of capsizing. Our products are meant to be used only in calm waters.

Perception, Wilderness Systems, and Dagger kayaks are made for several different types of water. Call your local retailer or visit our kayak selector tool here, to find out which boats are right for you.

The length of the kayak will allow for better glide, depending on the weight and size of the paddler. The length you choose will be based on the type of kayaking you want to do and your height.

Choosing a paddle is largely a matter of personal preference. There are many sizes, shapes, and materials available. If possible, try several different paddles and choose the one that feels best.

Keep in mind that a paddle is an extremely important piece of gear that can make or break the pleasure of a full day on the water. Take the time to decide what works best for you.

Transportation:

You can transport your kayak

  • By hand: Carry the kayak by using the carrying handles located at the front, rear, or centre. If necessary, use a transport cart to help you with the transport. Do not use the handles to fasten your kayak to your vehicle;
  • By vehicle: We recommend using a car top carrier to transport your kayak by vehicle. Remove all accessories and put them into the vehicle before leaving to avoid damaging or losing them.

Warning

  • Avoid dragging your kayak across the ground to prolong its life and maintain its look and performance. Two people, utilizing the carrying handles, are the best way to transport the boat. Alternately, you can transport using a kayak cart

To safely transport your kayaks, we recommend using one of our car top carriers:

Short-term storage

We recommend placing our products on a level surface for storage. You can also try our new storage straps or our kayak wall rack.

Our products are made of polyethylene plastic, which has memory capacity. When a product is stored in a manner other than plastic, level storage is recommended; small pressure points where the weight of the product is supported may appear.

Storing your kayak for an extended period

  • Clean your kayak;
  • Remove tight straps or ropes from the hull, as this can deform your kayak over time;
  • Remove the drain plug and leave it out, as this will regulate the air pressure inside the kayak. Place the kayak in an upright position (on its stern) to empty any water that has accumulated because of condensation or seepage;
  • Store your kayak in a well-ventilated and shaded area. Direct sunlight for an extended period can damage it. Do not store your kayak in a bag or tarp for extended periods. Prolonged storage of a wet kayak in a wet bag or tarp may cause mould and osmotic blisters. Bags and tarps collect heat and can potentially overheat your kayak;
  • Place your kayak on a flat surface. Avoid placing it on sawhorses for an extended period. Avoid placing it close to a heat source (e.g., a stove, radiator, etc.) or hanging it by its carrying handles, as this could deform the hull over time. Cover it with a cockpit cover if you store it outdoors;

The best approach

Of course, everyone has their own constraints. However, if you have a choice, the best approach is to store your boat indoors, away from significant temperature variations, rodents and pests, and direct sunlight. In addition to being inside, it must be well supported to avoid any lasting deformation of the hull.

It depends on the model you own, contact-us to find out if your model can accept a motor.

Pelican’s scupper plugs Size small fits all our models with the exception of the Catch PWR, Catch 110 HDII and Catch 130 HDII which will need size medium.

Standard Scupper Plugs for current Wilderness Systems, Dagger, and Perception kayaks:

https://www.perceptionkayaks.com/us/scupper-plugs-4-pack-harmony-gear

Do not remove the Styrofoam blocks. These blocks are extra flotation and will keep your kayak above water in case it capsizes or fills up with water.

About Your Inflatable Kayak

Important Information: DO NOT USE CHEMICAL PRODUCTS OR ABRASIVES.

  • The best way to clean your inflatable kayak or SUP is by hosing it down with freshwater, and let it air dry before packing itletting away for extended periods. Use a sponge to soak up any excess water and grit that may have made their way into the boat. You can also use soft liquid soap or a diluted solution of Simple Green. Clean your product regularly to keep it looking new. Some chemical substances contained in cleaning products and sunscreen lotions are likely to damage the finish of your product.

Your inflatable kayak is made of very durable materials. However, like anything else, proper use and care will increase the life of your kayak. Before storing your kayak, make sure it is both CLEAN and DRY. You may clean your kayak with a mild soap and water. NEVER use strong solvents to clean your kayak as they will destroy the material.

NEVER unzip the chamber cover (if present) when the kayak is inflated.

Be sure to rinse your kayak with fresh water after every use in salt water and allow it to dry thoroughly before storing. Use a dry towel to wipe up all moisture. It should be deflated and kept out of direct sunlight when stored. Avoid exposure to extreme temperatures (hot or cold). If your boat is exposed to freezing temperatures while storing, allow it to warm up before unfolding.

Do not store your kayak for an extended period while wet.

All kayaks come with a repair kit that includes a glue-less peel-and-stick patch. For more significant repairs, we include a selection of material patches that can be glued on. Simply acquire a PVC glue at your local marine or outdoor store

Repairing Small Punctures and Cuts Using the Peel-And-Stick Patch
1. Cut a patch to size (approx. 1/2” larger than the hole or damaged area);
2. Carefully clean the area where patch will be placed with water and/or mild soap;
3. Make sure all surfaces are completely dry before proceeding;
4. Carefully peel back the paper liner on the glueless patch and carefully apply the patch over the hole-taking care to avoid any bubbles in the patch. Rub all edges to seal;
5. As a rule of thumb, the patch will start to cure immediately with approx. immediate adhesion of 50% with full 100% adhesion 24 hours after application.

Repairing Pinholes
1. Inflate the PVC tube. Locate the pinhole by sponging soapy water over the tube until you see air bubbles. Mark the location of the pinhole;
2. Deflate the tube and dry the affected area. Apply a drop of glue to the pinhole;
3. Allow glue to dry completely;
4. Do not inflate the kayak for at least twelve hours.

Is the issue with your valve happening when you use the stock hand pump that came with the kayak? OR, is it while using an aftermarket powered pump? Most of the time these issues with the valves arise when using an aftermarket pump. It's possible the pump could be modified in some way to make it work. Being that it isn't one of our pumps we cannot provide any information as to how you can adapt your pump. You can probably find youtube videos of others who have done this sort of DIY.

About Your Canoe

The best canoe storage is upside-down in a cool, dry place. The canoe must be off the ground. A rack or sawhorses work well, but some protection can be obtained by using blocks. If you want to suspend the canoe from above, make sure the canoe's weight is resting evenly on the gunwales. Do not store heavy objects on top of the canoe, and do not store a canoe on its side. Both will cause the hull to deform over time. If it will be exposed to the wind, make sure your canoe is securely tied. Inside storage is preferred because it protects the hull from temperature extremes and exposure to rain or snow. Do not store our canoe near a direct source of heat (e.g., a furnace): high temperatures are as detrimental as extreme cold. If outside storage is necessary and a cover is desired, some precautions are needed. Make sure the cover will withstand snow loads or heavy rain. A plastic cover will protect the canoe from light precipitation and exposure, but do not allow the plastic to touch the hull. Leave the downwind end open for air circulation; moisture trapped between the cover and the canoe will discolour the hull. Some grey weathering of the gunwales will occur with outside storage.

To safely transport your kayaks, canoes, or SUPs, we recommend using one of our car top carriers:

About your fishing boat and pedal boat

Storage short term

  • Insert weather caps in the bow and stern trolling motor sockets;
  • Cover the boat with a mooring cover to avoid water accumulation in the boat.

Storage long term

  • Pull the fishing boat out of the water;
  • Remove the drain plugs and stand the boat on its bow to remove any water accumulation;
  • Remove motor, fuel tank(s), battery, swivel seats, cushions, oars or paddles and all other accessories, empty livewell completely and store these pieces properly;
  • Set the boat upside down on level ground;
  • Cover the fishing boat with a tarp or canvas;
  • Never store the boat on sawhorses or comparable supports;
  • Avoid prolonged, unnecessary exposure to the sun, as this may damage the fishing boat cosmetics.

  • Do not use handles to secure fishing boat for transport;
  • We recommend a bunk trailer as keel rollers could eventually dent the hull. Respect the load recommendations that the trailer is built for;
  • Your fishing boat is very light so be sure to calculate total weight of the motor, if applicable, plus the boat and gear before trailering to avoid any unnecessary bouncing of your boat on larger trailers;
  • Ensure that the fishing boat is properly secured to the trailer;
  • Remove swivel seats, livewell and battery compartments, and any other accessories before trailering to prevent loss or damage.

Storage short term

  • Pelican offers a mooring cover to protect your pedal boat from all types of weather conditions;
  • The drain plugs at the bow of the pedal boat should be removed periodically in order to allow any water accumulation caused by condensation to be evacuated. To drain: remove the drain plug and stand the pedal boat on its bow.

Storage long term

  • To store your pedal boat for long periods of time, remove the drain plugs and stand the pedal boat on its bow to remove any water accumulation;
  • Set the pedal boat right side up on the ground with a mooring cover;
  • Avoid placing heavy objects on the pedal boat. If this should happen and the plastic is bent due to the pressure, place the boat in the sun and the RAM-X™ will return to its original shape;
  • Never store a pedal boat on sawhorses;
  • Avoid prolonged or unnecessary exposure to the sun, as this may damage the pedal boat’s finish.

  • The best way to transport a boat is on a flatbed trailer that is built specifically for a pedal boat to allow for easy loading and launching. If a trailer is not an option, a pedal boat can be transported in the back of a truck or on a roof rack;
  • The carrying handles at both ends help in the transportation of the pedal boat by hand. These handles should not be used to fasten the pedal boat to a vehicle;
  • Do not use handles to secure pedal boat for transport;
  • If your pedal boat is equipped with adjustable seat backs and cooler lidssecure the, you should remove them before transporting to avoid loss or damage.
